Lakewood Elementary, originally constructed in 1961, is a one-story masonry structure with exterior brick veneer. The school facility is situated on 18 acres in the west sector of Ann Arbor. The original structure has experienced at least 3 additions over the years, and currently supports Y5 – Grade 5 education.
You might notice some work taking place in and around your school this summer. Construction will begin during summer break on projects approved as part of the 2019 bond, including those that will enhance the health, safety and learning experience for students and staff. This summer Lakewood Elementary will receive some interior work of converting an existing space into a new preschool classroom. Thank you for your patience as we complete this work.

Conversion of an existing space into a new preschool classroom.
Addition of air conditioning and replacement of existing lights with LED light fixtures. Classrooms to have a dimmable lighting system and new ceiling tiles.
New window shades added to the building.
Updated the school’s Building Management System (BMS) to the latest version including a new graphical interface and mobile, cloud-based access. The upgrades allow for better systems control, improved occupant comfort and energy efficiency.
Installation of filtered water bottle filling stations throughout the school.
Update to security system on property.
Planted 19 native hardwood trees for shading of playgrounds and other outdoor environments.
New playground was added. Equipment includes stepping pods, climbers, sensory wave, sky runner and a slide.
Construction/repairs of school roof.
Repair of pavement and parking lot on school grounds.
Purchase of new musical instruments and pianos for music classrooms and auditoriums.
New, flexible, classroom furniture was added to create a more accessible, engaging and student-centered environment.
