NC/MP #52. What is being done to ensure safety on construction sites?
Ann Arbor Public Schools (AAPS) is committed to ensuring that all construction activities on AAPS properties are conducted safely, responsibly, and in full compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. All site work, including grading, utilities, stormwater management, and building construction, is performed in accordance with approved plans, applicable building codes, and environmental and permitting requirements established by the City of Ann Arbor and the State of Michigan.
AAPS contractors and project teams follow industry-standard best practices to minimize impacts to neighboring properties. We also recognize that construction activity may raise questions or concerns for neighboring community members. While AAPS cannot assess or comment on conditions or issues occurring on private property, we are committed to reviewing any concerns related to district construction sites to confirm that all work continues to align with regulatory requirements and approved plans.

Radon is a naturally occurring gas that can accumulate indoors, especially in basements or ground-level spaces. Long-term exposure to high levels of radon is linked to lung cancer.

Construction can alter soil and airflow patterns, which in some cases may affect radon levels. For this reason, AAPS projects are designed to meet or exceed all environmental safety regulations, including requirements related to radon.
