Lawton Elementary, originally constructed in 1963, is a one-story masonry structure with exterior brick veneer. The school facility is situated on 7.7 acres in the southwest sector of Ann Arbor. The original structure has experienced at least 2 additions over the years, and currently supports Y5 – Grade 5.
You might notice some work taking place in and around your school this summer. Construction will begin during summer break on projects approved as part of the 2019 bond, including those that will enhance the health, safety and learning experience for students and staff. This summer Lawton Elementary will be receiving improvements in air conditioning, lighting, ceiling replacements, and the installation of new window treatments. This work may result in areas around the school and parking lot that are being blocked off for equipment and construction crew. Thank you for your patience as we complete this work.

Upgrade and maintain existing system to improve storm water drainage in the South lawn.
Construction/repairs of school roof.
Addition of air conditioning and replacement of existing lights with LED light fixtures. Classrooms to have a dimmable lighting system and new ceiling tiles.
Converted CPU lab into a classroom and made a classroom from portion of library.
Updated the school’s Building Management System (BMS) to the latest version including a new graphical interface and mobile, cloud-based access. The upgrades allow for better systems control, improved occupant comfort and energy efficiency.
Installation of filtered water bottle filling stations throughout the school.
Update to security system on property.
Planted 9 native hardwood trees for shading of playgrounds and other outdoor environments.
New kindergarten and elementary playgrounds were added. New equipment includes arch swings, astro jumper, sensory wave, climbing net and a merry-go-all.
Purchase of new musical instruments and pianos for music classrooms and auditoriums.
New, flexible, classroom furniture was added to create a more accessible, engaging and student-centered environment.
Repair of pavement and parking lot on school grounds.
Construction and repairs of the school roof.
Patching and repair of pavement on school grounds.
